Lawyers condemn police attack on Jallikattu supporters


Today morning, it was all chaos at the VOC grounds, as the police conducted a lathi charge against the protestors. The supporters for Jallikattu who were protesting for the sixth consecutive day at the VOC park were advised to leave the site by the police. Argument broke out as the protestors denied to leave the protest site. However, the police continued to warn the students and the public to withdraw their protest and clear the zone. 

Unexpectedly, the police lathi-charged the protestors urging them to clear-off, this broke violence and commotion around the area. Close to 10 people are reportedly to be injured during the lathi charge by the police. The supporters who were injured in the attack were rushed to Government hospital for treatment. Jothi, a student sustained a fracture in her arm after beaten-up the police. 

 

Upon knowing the attack, the parents and relatives of the supporters rushed to the spot to ensure if their kin and kith were safe out there. A senior citizen came crying to the grounds in search of her grandson who was here at the grounds for the past six days. For close to an hour or so, situation at the VOC grounds remained extremely tense. 



Condemning the lathi-charge on the students, the lawyers staged a protest in front of the district combined court complex. The protesting lawyers registered their condemnation against the attack on the supporters. The students who escaped the lathi charge have sought asylum in the court complex.
