Today morning, close to 100 employees of the the Tamil Nadu state primary cooperative society staged a protest alleging the senior officials for involving in various irregularities, thereby creating huge losses and misappropriation of funds. They alleged that the senior officials of the co-operative department have been using co-operative minister's name as a tool to conceal their manipulations and misusing funds.
They revealed that through the purchase of bio-metric devices at every district co-operative warehouses, losses up to the tune of Rs. 1.5 crores have been incurred. As the device cost is Rs. 3400/- but cheques have been issued at a rate of Rs. 6000 per device.
They also sought the cancellation of modernization of the cooperative stores as it may lead to unnecessary expenditure and result in loss of money. They also reported that, 'The empty sacks are sold at a rate of Rs.8 in all the circles but whereas there is a possibility to sell the sacks at a cost Rs.18 per sack through the Tamil Nadu civil supplies corporation. This has led to losses up to Rs.350 crores in the past five years'.
One of the protestors shared that without seeking permissions from the concerned departments, every month Rs.4000 is collected forcibly towards computer maintenance. Several other allegations were also put-forth by the employees seeking immediate action against the officials for their involvement in misappropriation of funds.
