Herd of elephants bring traffic to a stand-still on Coonoor road.

Early this morning, a herd of four elephants strayed on to the Coonoor to Mettupalayam road, near Marapalam bringing the traffic to stand still for more than an hour.

People who were struck in the traffic shared that the herd continued to wander on the roads near Marapalam for an hour or so and showed no signs of venturing back into the forests. As the pathway leading to the forest were too narrow the female elephants were reluctant to get down as the calf might slip-off.

Following this incident, traffic on this road has come to a stand-still. Though the traffic was struck, a few tourists enjoyed the sight of the herd with the baby calf. They clicked pictures and took video of the elephants and described the moment as 'thrilled'.
