Today, marks the seventh National Voters day. Since, 2011, January 25th is observed as National Voters day, this day reminds the responsibility vested with every citizen towards voting and also the power of every single voter. The objective of the day is to encourage and empower the youth to participate in voting and to make them enroll in voter's list if they have crossed 18 years of age.
This morning here in the city of Coimbatore, a Voters awareness rally was flagged off by the District Collector by T.N. Hariharan. Over 500 students from various colleges participated in this awareness rally. The rally that commenced from Collectorate passed through important streets of Coimbatore before being called off at Thomas Park. The participants also took a voter's pledge.
The students carried placards with messages that educated the public to exercise their right to vote. All through the route, the students raised slogans on the importance of voting and to be a responsible citizen. As a part of this programme, the students, also took an oath that they will exercise their right to responsibly.
District revenue officer D. Venkatesan, P Gandhimathi, CCMC, Deputy Commissioner, District collector's personal assistant (Election) Rajkumar participated in the inauguration event.
