P. Gandhimathi Corporation commissioner (in-charge) chaired a meeting today to discuss the steps that have been taken to prevent the spread of dengue fever in Coimbatore.
When speaking at this meeting Corporation commissioner (in-charge) P. Gandhimathi said, “Necessary preventive measures have been taken in the city to control spread of dengue. Corporation officials and sanitary workers are advised to go on a door to door campaign to ensure application of Abate mosquito controller. During such visits, they also have a check on the unwanted wasted piled up and educate the residents to discard wastes on a timely manner as water stagnation acts as the breeding ground for all disease-spreading mosquitoes'
“The officials and sanitary workers are also creating awareness at all 100 wards about the causes, symptoms and treatment of dengue. Anyway, it is also the responsibility of the public to keep their premise and surrounding areas clean without water stagnation. The public should cooperate with the corporation workers who visit their home to apply Abate medicine. Water storage vessels should be kept airtight and the chlorine levels in the drinking water must be maintained. Upon, illness for prolonged periods or any other symptoms of dengue, people should avoid self medication instead should visit the nearest primary health centres or the government hospitals' she said.
