As per the orders of the Tamil Nadu government, an awareness rally on the ill-effects of liquor consumption and spurious liquor was hosted at the Coimbatore district collector office today.
Coimbatore district collector T.N. Hariharan flagged off this rally. Close to 1000 students from various educational institutions took part in this rally. This awareness rally was aimed at educating the public on the harmful effects of consuming liquor and spurious liquor consumption.

The rally which began at the Coimbatore district collectors office, passed through the Coimbatore police commissioner’s office and reached before being called off at the VOC Park Grounds.
More than 1,000 school and college students participated in this awareness rally. Along the rally route, folk artists performed a street play with the message on ill-effects of consuming liquor. The street plays had many on-lookers.
As a part of this initiative, a team of doctors educated the students and public about the ill-effects of the liquor consumption and it's harmful effects on health. Medical camps emphasizing the illness of liquor consumption were also hosted at the VOC grounds.
Assistant commissioner of excise duty Thu. Venkatesan, district revenue officer (Stamp paper) Noor Muhammed, Zonal excise duty officers Jayachithra, Rukmani, school and college students along with their teachers and government officials participated in this awareness programme.
