Victims duped of Rs. 2.90 crore in Tirupur due to chit scam by grocery shop owner petition Tirupur Collector to recover their money

The victims submitted a petition at the Tirupur Collectorate demanding the arrest of Kumar, a grocery store owner who is reportedly absconding after duping them of Rs 2.90 crore in a chit scam near Serangadu in Tirupur district.



Tirupur: Vasanthakumar, who had been staying in Serangadu area in Tirupur for the past 15 years was running a grocery store. He had also been involved in running grocery chits to the public on a monthly and weekly basis.

Based on the trust in Vasanthakumar, more than 200 people had joined the grocery card in weekly and monthly instalments, this year. The people reportedly paid Rs. 100 to Rs. 2,000 in instalments every week. Kumar, meanwhile who had said that he will give the people the money due to them for the Diwali festival reportedly vacated the house with his family on Wednesday and absconded.

Since Kumar could not be contacted, more than 100 victims had filed a petition at the Tirupur City Police Commissioner's office demanding the recovery of their money. Since no action had been taken even after a week, the victims submitted a petition at the Tirupur District Collectorate demanding the recovery of the money that they had lost. It is to be noted that more than 200 people have been duped in Kumar's chit scam to the tune of Rs 2.90 crore.
