Over 200 BJP cadres including women led by the BJP District President, Balaji Uthamaramasamy were arrested for staging the road blockade in the Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: A protest was held in Chennai's Nungambakkam area under the leadership of the BJP State President Annamalai demanding action against DMK workers for allegedly making derogatory remarks against women. The BJP workers including Annamalai were arrested for protesting against the ban.
BJP activists then staged a protest in the city's Gandhipuram area to condemn the arrest of Annamalai.
The protest was led by the party's District President, Balaji Uthamaramasamy.
More than 200 cadres, including women belonging to the BJP, took out a procession from the BJP office in the Siddhapudur area and blocked the road in front of the Gandhipuram city bus stand.
The protesters shouted slogans demanding to know why the the police had not taken any action against the DMK leaders and arrested only the BJP State President, Annamalai.
Following this, the police arrested more than 200 BJP activists who were protesting on the road and disrupting traffic.
Traffic in the Gandhipuram area was disrupted for more than 20 minutes due to the sudden picketing by the BJP.
