The Palladam police arrested the gang for kidnapping Suman, a youth from West Bengal, who was working in a private baniyan company in Chinnakarai area of Tirupur, and trying to extort money from his family.
Tirupur: A large number of private baniyan companies are operating in and around Palladam in Tirupur district in which people not only from other districts of Tamil Nadu but also from Northern states work.
Suman (25), a resident of West Bengal, who works in a private baniyan company in Chinnakarai area was walking back to his room after work, on Wednesday evening.
At that time, two men on a two-wheeler intercepted Suman and lured him away saying that he would get more salary from another company and that he could attend an interview soon.
But instead they took Suman and locked him up in a room and attacked him. They also took the contact numbers of his parents and friends from him and extorted Suman's family for money saying that Suman had been kidnapped.
Following this, the miscreants allegedly sent a video of Suman being tied up in a separate room and assaulted.
Suman's parents and friends informed the baniyan company where Suman works and the company's executives lodged a complaint with the Palladam police.
Based on the complaint, the police conducted a thorough investigation on the orders of Palladam DSP Soumya and found that Suman was being held hostage in a room at Uppilipalayam, near Palladam.
Following this, the police rescued Suman who was locked up in the room, and arrested the six-member gang comprising Ajith Kumar (29) from Pudukottai, Subramani and Palanikumar from Sivagangai, Rajasekhar and Hariharan from Uppilipalayam and Sameer Usman (26) from Bengaluru.
