Sreemathi, a native of Thumbi Pettu Irula village near Kotagiri who appeared for NEET, has secured a seat in the Government Medical College in Tirunelveli. The Nilgiris District Collector, S P Amrith congratulated her for being the first girl from the Irula community to pursue medical studies.

Sreemathi is the daughter of Balan and Radha in Nilgiris and completed Class 12 in 2019 from a private school in the district. After writing her NEET exam to pursue her dream of medical studies, Sreemathi diligently studied and in her fourth attempt scored 370 marks in the 2022 NEET exam. Thereafter, Sreemathi secured a seat in the Government Medical College in Tirunelveli.
"I completed Class 12 in 2019. I wrote NEET exam to make my medical dream come true. There wer no seats available due to lack of adequate cut-off. I had no intention of studying in any other field since my aim was to pursue my medical dream till it came true to serve the poor and downtrodden. So, I wrote NEET for the fourth time and scored 370 marks and finally got a seat in Tirunelveli Government Medical College," said an excited Sreemathi.
