More than 150 families live in Kadacholai and Alkadu areas adjacent to the forest.
There have been reports of much bear movement in the area for the past few days.
A bear entered the Government School premises on Friday morning and broke open the door of the school classroom and entered the class.
The bear, which had come in search of food, ransacked the classroom by breaking open two cupboards belonging to teachers and students, and tore books.
Since there was no food to be found in the school, the bear disappeared into a nearby tea garden. Following a complaint lodged by the teachers, the Forest Department is in the process of monitoring the movement of bears around the school premises. People in the area have also demanded that the bear be captured quickly if it ventures back into the school premises.
