Coimbatore: Stone quarries located in No.10, Muthur and Kuttiyalampalayam areas of Kinathukadavu taluk of Coimbatore district break rocks with high-noise explosives which have reportedly led to cracks in houses as well as affected farmlands. People and farmers in the area have also complained that roads were damaged due to heavy vehicles plying in the area.

In this regard, a meeting between the farmers and stone quarry owners was held at the Kinathukadavu Tahsildar's office last night under the chairmanship of Tahsildar Mallika. Farmers who participated in it made various allegations stating, "Stone quarries are operating in violation of the rules of the Government. Rocks are broken with high-noise explosives. This has resulted in damage to houses and affected prices of land in the area. Tar roads have also been damaged with many potholes due to excessive movement of boulders in heavy vehicles."

Speaking to the stone quarry owners in this regard, Tahsildar Mallika said that the quarry should be run as per the rules of the Government. "Do not place explosives with high noise. The quarry owners were also warned to break rocks in such a way that the farmlands around were not affected."
