Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam organises seminar on Maaveerar's Day for Eradication of Caste in Coimbatore

At a seminar organised by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam at Coimbatore railway station, tributes were paid to those who lost their lives in the anti-caste struggle.


Coimbatore: On November 26, 1957, a massive protest was held across the country for the abolition of caste. On that day, some sections of the Indian law were burnt, claiming that they were protecting caste. More than 3,000 people were arrested and jailed during the protest. Many of them died in jail.

Following this event, every year salutes are paid to those who died in that struggle. Subsequently, they were saluted yesterday.



Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary Ramakrishnan presided over the seminar at a private hall in Coimbatore railway station area. Prof. Saron was the chief guest and delivered the keynote address. Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam state organising secretary Aarusamy, publication secretary Manoharan, Periyar and Ambedkar activists were also present on the occasion.
