Locals panic as lone leopard roams in residential areas near Ooty at midnight in search of pet dogs

The public demanded that forest officials immediately capture the leopard which has been hunting for pet dogs in Kallakorai, Palada and K K Nagar areas near Ooty.



The Nilgiris: A leopard roaming in residential areas near Ooty in Nilgiris district has created panic among the public.

The movement of leopards in Ooty and its surrounding areas has been on the rise over the last few years. Leopards emerge from the forest cover at nights to hunt for pet dogs in residential areas.



For the past one week, a leopard has been spotted roaming around areas like Kallakorai, Palada and K K Nagar near Ooty in search of pet dogs for prey.



Alarmed by the continuous attacks on their dogs, locals have requested the Forest Department to capture the leopard in a cage, immediately. The locals allege that the forest officials have been negligent despite repeated requests to capture roaming leopards.
