Sepia, a resident of Sowripalayam, who has been struggling to speak and breathe for the past three years due to a medical error during her thyroid surgery at the ESI Hospital in Coimbatore, petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector, in tears and seeking compensation.
Coimbatore: Sepia, the wife of Nagaraj who hails from Anna Nagar near Sowripalayam in Coimbatore district has two daughters. She was admitted to the ESI Hospital three years ago in 2019 and underwent two surgeries for a thyroid problem.
It is reported that for the last three years, Sepia has been struggling to speak or breathe due to a medical blunder during the surgery. Sepia now submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector, in tears, seeking appropriate action in this regard.
Sepia alleged that since there was shortness of breath after the surgery, a hole was made in the neck area and a temporary tube was set. This caused her pain and hence the neck hole was again closed. But thereon, Sepia alleged that she has been unable to speak.
Sepia stated in her petition that when she questioned the doctors about her complications, they reassured her that there was a small cut done in the trachea during the surgery but that she would be fine in a few days.
"But even after three years, till now, I am still struggling to speak and breathe. The ESI Hospital management or the Tamil Nadu Government should pay appropriate compensation since we are struggling to raise our girl children since I am unable to go to work due to my health issue," stated Sepia in her petition to the Collector.
