Coconut growers warn of series of protests on Farmers' Day similar to farmers' protests in Delhi if demands are not met

Coimbatore: Over 5000 farmers from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the Coconut Farmers' Conference held at Sulur in Coimbatore where a resolution was passed that if the farmers' demands including a hike in the procurement price of coconuts are not met, there will be a continuous protest on Farmers' Day, similar to the farmers' protests in Delhi.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association today organised a conference on the demand of coconut farmers at a private marriage hall at Sencherimalai near Sulur in Coimbatore district.

Over 5,000 farmers from different parts of Tamil Nadu participated in the conference, which was inaugurated by Rakesh Tikait, President of the Indian Kisan Sabha, Eesan, Founder-President of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association, and representatives and office bearers of the Farmers' Unions.

At the conference, several long-standing demands of coconut farmers such as increasing the procurement price of coconuts from Rs. 150 to Rs. 250, allowing them to be imported and sold, selling coconut oil in fair price shops and that the Tamil Nadu Government should take steps to control the wilt disease spreading to coconuts, were put forward.

Speaking at the conference, Eesan, Founder-President of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association said that if the demands of the coconut farmers are not met, there will be a continuous protest on Farmers' Day 2023, just like the farmers protested in Delhi last year, condemning the Central and State Governments.
