Collector inaugurates 'Kurinji Vanam' project, over 8,000 saplings to be planted by Forest Department

Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran inaugurated 'Kurinji Vanam' project, under which over 8,000 saplings will be planted on behalf of the District Forest Department. More than 200 varieties of saplings including Vagai, Figs, Bamboo and Teak will be planted.



Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district forest department has launched "Kurinji Vanam" project, to plant 8,000 saplings and District Collector G.S. Sameeran inaugurated the afforestration programme in Pillaiarpuram area.



In the first phase, about 200 varieties of saplings will be planted in the forest, including Ilaipurasu, Vagai, Figs, Bamboo and Teak.



Corporation Commissioner Prathap, Anamalai Tiger Reserve Field Director and Conservator of Forests Ramasubramanian, District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary Senior Scientist Pramod, Madukkarai Forest Ranger Sandhya and others were present on the occasion.
