CM Stalin inaugurates 'Manam' a Mind Health Support Forum for medical students at Coimbatore Medical College

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has launched a mental health initiative called "Manam", which provides psychological support and counselling to students studying in the Government Medical College in Coimbatore. Stalin inaugurated the event through video conferencing.


Coimbatore: The Government of Tamil Nadu has launched a service called 'Mind Health Support Forum'(Manam) to identify and psychologically extend counselling to the students studying in medical and paramedical courses in all the Government Medical Colleges across the State

The initiative will help address mental health issues, if any and prevent early detection and prevention of suicidal thoughts due to severe stress among the student community.

The heads of all departments, including the Deans of the respective medical colleges and the Head of the Psychiatry department, will be present in the mental health welfare clubs.

Teams consisting of Assistant professors and students will be formed and steps will be taken to improve the mental well-being of the students.



Accordingly, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the "Mental Health Wellness Forum" and another initiative "With You with Friendship" through video conferencing from the Secretariat in Chennai to provide mental health counselling and guidance to medical students.

Furthermore, innovative training on life ethics, the well-being of the students, and life skills including artistic skills will be imparted through these initiatives.

A Helpline number for "With You in Friendship" was also introduced for mental health services to the medical student community.



Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran, Government Medical College Dean Nirmala, Psychiatrists and others were present on the occasion.
