Corporation Council passes resolution giving pay hike to contract sanitation workers

A resolution has been unanimously passed at the Coimbatore Municipal Council meeting to fix the pay at Rs 648.33 to the contract sanitation workers from January 1.


Coimbatore: For the past few months, contract sanitation workers attached to the City Corporation have been demanding a pay hike, and they have staged many protests demanding the same.

They had demanded that the wages of contract sanitation workers should be increased to Rs 721 from Rs. 440 which is in practice now.

In this situation, the City Corporation has decided to give a pay hike keeping in view the demand of contract sanitation workers and their welfare.

Accordingly, a special resolution was passed to increase the salary amount to Rs 648 from January 1. The resolution was passed by the council and the Mayor after all ward councillors voted for it.

The pay hike will come into effect from January 1, 2023.
