The case has been going on in the Coimbatore court for more than 20 years. Justice Saravanababu sentenced clerk Vijayakumar to three years imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on him.
Coimbatore: Vijayakumar working as a clerk and Nagaraj, who was working as secretary of the Public Employees' Co-operative Thrift and Coinage Society functioning in the TNAU campus embezzled funds to the tune of Rs. 20000.
This happened in the time period from 1987 to 1993.
Following a formal complaint by Co-operative society Deputy Registrar Sundaram with the Economic offences wing of the Crime Branch, a case was registered in 1995.
Secretary Nagaraj, who was involved in the case had passed away due to ill health. The trial in the case had been going on in the JM4 court in Coimbatore for more than 20 years. Prasanna Venkatesh appeared on behalf of the Government.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Saravana Babu sentenced Vijayakumar to three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on him.
The court also allowed Vijayakumar to file an appeal in a higher court.
