CITU protest demands pending pension benefits for the unorganized sector

More than 200 people participated in the demonstration organised by the CITU coordination committee in front of the BSNL office in Coimbatore and they raised slogans pressing for various demands.



Coimbatore: The CITU is holding protests across Tamil Nadu demanding the immediate release of pension arrears for the unorganized sector workforce.



As part of this, a demonstration was held in front of the BSNL office on behalf of the CITU District Coordination Committee for Construction and Unorganized Sector employees.



The protest, led by Coimbatore District coordinator Velusamy, demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately release the long-pending pension dues.

“ A minimum pension of Rs 3,000 has to be paid to those in the unorganized sector’ the protesters demanded.



Various demands including that the amount of assistance should be raised for the unorganized workers and sources for funding should be created for all welfare boards were stressed.

They also submitted a petition in this regard to the District collector urging him to forward it to the Tamil Nadu government.



More than 200 people from CITU Coimbatore District Road Transport Workers' Union, Load workers' Union, Auto Drivers Association and others participated in the protest.
