Application invited for 'Manjappai' awards in three categories - TN Environment Minister Meiyanathan

The Environment Minister also announced that cash prizes will be awarded along with 'Manjappai' awards to schools, colleges and shopping malls, which are promoting zero-plastic campuses and setting a model in using cloth bags.



Coimbatore: In a bid to popularize the "Manjappai Again" (Meendum Manjappai) campaign, Tamil Nadu Environment and Climate Change Minister Meiyanathan made various announcements in the Assembly for the financial year 2022-23

Accordingly, the "Manjappai Awards" will be given to the best schools, colleges and shopping malls that will effectively implement the ban on single-use disposable plastic and make their premises plastic-free.

The awards which will be given in three categories to 3 best schools, 3 best colleges and 3 best shopping malls that promote and effectively implement the use of traditional eco-friendly alternatives such as “ Manajappai” (yellow cloth bags) as an alternative to single-use plastic carry bags.

While the first prize will be Rs 10 lakhs, the second and third prizes would carry a cash component of 5 lakhs Rs 3 lakhs in each category.

Conditions for applying for Manjappai Awards are as follows:

The links in the application form should be duly signed by the individual/head of the institution.

Two signed copies and two copies of The CD each should be submitted to the District Collector.
