Vanathi Srinivasan alleged that the ruling party has staged a dirty drama against the Governor and planned in advance by instigating the coalition parties to insult the Tamil Nadu Governor, R N Ravi who was only acting as per the duties assigned to him by the Constitution.
Coimbatore: The BJP Women's Wing National President and Coimbatore South MLA, Vanathi Srinivasan raised several questions regarding the credibility of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, in Coimbatore.
Vanathi Srinivasan issued a statement saying, "The Governor has traditionally addressed the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. It is generally the opposition parties who oppose the Governor's address. However, the ruling party - the DMK itself - has staged a dirty drama against the Governor. They have planned in advance, instigated the coalition parties and insulted the Governor. This is highly condemnable.
The Tamil Nadu Governor, R N Ravi is acting as per the duties assigned to him by the Constitution. The post of Governor can be a nominated post. But he is a representative of the Central Government elected by the people of India. The BJP government has not created the Governor's post afresh but the post of Governor was created by Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.
Therefore, insulting the Governor is tantamount to insulting the law eminent and people's leader late Dr. Ambedkar."
"The DMK has been criticising the Governor's post as an unnecessary post. If so, when he was a member of the Central Government from 1989-1990, 1996-1998, 1999-2013, the DMK could have taken steps to remove the Governor's post when the Governor threatened the Congress and got Union Ministerial berths.
In 2004, the DMK could have said that if the Governor is not removed from the post, we will not support the formation of the Government at the Centre. But for five years from 2004 to 2009, the DMK was at their mercy. Was there a Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government? When late J Jayalalithaa was Chief Minister, the DMK put a lot of pressure on the State Government by using Governors like Chenna Reddy and Surjit Singh Barnala.
In those days, what happened to the autonomy of the State and the rights of the State? In order to cover up the administrative inefficiency, corruption and dynastic politics of the DMK Government now, unnecessary problems are being created, and forcing the Governor to speak the ideology of the DMK is also highly condemnable. People are very angry with the DMK Government and to divert the attention of the people, the DMK have demeaned the Governor," further stated Vanathi Srinivasan.
"Speaking at a function held at the Raj Bhavan in Guindy, Chennai, the Governor R N Ravi did not say anything against 'Tamil Nadu' but only said it would be appropriate to say 'Tamizhagam' for the State.
The DMK, including the Chief Minister M K Stalin, used the word 'Tamizhagam' because it was appropriate and in fact the DMK Government has been advertising "Thalainimirntha Tamizhagam, Manam Kulirudhu Thinanthinam." The DMK also had this slogan at the memorial of the late Kalaignar Karunanidhi. The TN Chief Minister M K Stalin too had put up the slogan on his social media pages as a cover photo. But the DMK says one should say 'Tamil Nadu.' If so, instead of 'Dravidian model,', can we say 'Tamil Nadu model?' Why have they named their party 'Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam?' It can also be called 'Tamil Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam.'
In Andhra Pradesh, there is a party called 'Telugu Desam.' They did not name it 'Dravida Desam.' Why is the DMK playing this double role? If 'Tamil Nadu' is what the Chief Minister M K Stalin and the DMK want to call the State, then are they ready to change the name of DMK to 'Tamil Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam' and are you ready to rename 'Dravidian model' as 'Tamil Nadu model?' questioned Vanathi Srinivasan in her statement.
