District Collector orders private land owners to remove 'Seemai karuvelam' (prosopis juliflora) trees from their lands.

'Seemai karuvelam' (prosopis juliflora) trees are proven to be a major threat to water conservation.  The drought resistant trees are spread across widely in barren lands and along the shores off water bunds, the species suck abundant of water from the grounds and also intake the moisture content in the air.

Thus, reduced moisture content will lead to change in rainfall patterns and nil rainfall too. The Madurai bench Court ordered to remove thoroughly this disastrous and useless tree all across Tamil Nadu.

As this year severe drought has struck Coimbatore, District Collector TN Hariharan has ordered to remove 'Seemai karuvelam' (prosopis juliflora) tree across the city. In an order passed by him, he has requested all private land owners to keep a check on these trees and if found to have thrived in their land, immediate removal of the trees from the roots should be initiated. By doing so, the water table would drastically improve. Collector Said.

Hence, all land owners are hereby asked to co-operate with the civic body in removal of the water depleting 'Seemai karuvelam' trees.
