Coimbatore United Round Table #186 hosted a Corporate Cricket at Coimbatore, in Kumaraguru College of Technology Grounds, on today. This “United Cup” Tournament was inaugurated by K Vijaykarthikeyan, Corporation Commissioner - Coimbatore (Chief Guest) and K Shankar Vanavarayar, Correspondent, Kumuraguru College of Technology (Guest of Honour), Dharani Ranganthan, Partner of Dharani Motors & Pumps and Tr.Subbu, Area Chairman, Area 7, Round Table India. Dharani Motors & Pumps were the main sponsor of the tournament and the associate sponsor was Sriram Properties.

This is the 6th year that the United Cup is being hosted. The United Cup is a Corporate Cricket tournament that is aimed at providing fun filled day of cricket for the corporates and their employees. The tournament provided a very good opportunity for the corporates to network amongst each others.
About 16 corporates participated in this edition of United Cup. This year too, this tournament lived up to the expectation of offering all the participants a fun filled day of cricket with witty commentary, music and the semi finals, finals will be played under flood lights. There is also going to be a grand winners and runners trophy.

The entire proceeds raised through this cricket tournament are to be used in building infrastructure for deserving government schools in remote areas around Coimbatore. Coimbatore United Round Table #186 came into being in 2005, is the 7th Round Table in Coimbatore. Coimbatore United Round Table #186 has till date constructed 14 classrooms in schools in and around our city and they are funding the construction of 6 more class rooms. Several lakh children are beneficiaries. The table has also constructed toilet blocks, water tanks, distributed study material to children and distributed blankets to tribals, among other social activities.
A press release from Coimbatore United Round Table #186 stated that Round Table India is a unique gathering of young men, between the age of 18 to 40, with social responsibility at the core of its being. Round Table India (RTI) currently has over 300 chapters, or tables, across the country. In the last ten years, RTI has built 5,377 classrooms in 2,172 schools all across India. These classrooms have benefitted more than 6 Lakh children.

Members of the various round tables have contributed to social causes through initiatives like Operation Thirst (500 Bore-wells), Project smile (Dental camps for 3 Lakh children), Project Touch (Sponsored education for 2000 orphaned children), Latur Earthquake relief, Kargil Relief fund, Orissa Cyclone, 48 schools built in Gujarath earthquake affected areas, 120 Schools built in Tsunami affected areas and much more.
Round Table India follows the approach of “Service through Fellowship” is making the difference. All social activities are done with the personal efforts of tablers. Therefore there are no overheads in running Round Table India, which means that the funds generated by tables and contributions received by them are 100% utilized for social initiatives.
