Farmers offer special prayers at Arulmigu Aalkondamal Temple near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district on the occasion of 'Kaanum Pongal'.
Tirupur: On the occasion of 'Kaanum Pongal' near Udumalpet, farmers offered special prayers at the Arulmigu Aalkondamal Temple by placing effigies and performing Thevarattam for the well-being of their cattle.

On the occasion of 'Kaanum Pongal Thamizhar' festival at Arulmigu Aalkondamal Temple at Somavarapatti near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district, farmers performed special pujas by placing a cow effigy, for their cattle to be in good health for a long time.

The farmers expressed their faith stating that they believed if they worship with effigies for the betterment of their cattle for many years as advised by their forefathers, the Lord will give them a helping hand to live a long life.

At the temple celebrations, the farmers performed 'Thevarattam' with the traditional Salakeruthu Attam and Urumi and performed special worship. More than 50,000 farmers from Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode districts participated in the festival.
