Police recover 1,500 kg of PDS rice dumped near Emerald dam near Ooty, on the look out for smugglers

Police recovered about 1,500 kg of ration rice, which was packed in small bags dumped into the Emerald dam near Ooty, which was dumped by the smugglers.


The Nigiris: Police are on the lookout for smugglers who have dumped 1,500 kg of ration rice in small bags inside the Emerald dam near Ooty.

The smuggling of PDS rice is rampant in these parts of Tamil Nadu and it is being smuggling into Kerala and Karnataka.



While the Nilgiris District anti-smuggling squad of Police are monitoring the smuggling of ration rice, on a war footing, many seizures are also reported.



In the meanwhile , Police found 1500 kg of PDS rice discarded in the junction of Avalanche and Emerald dams in the Emerald area near Ooty.



The Police rushed to the spot and recovered 100 bags of rice each at the rate of 15 kg per pack which lay at the dam site.



A case has also been registered and police are on the look out for the culprits.
