Grandparents' Day in Coimbatore - Children made to perform paatha Pooja and seek blessings from the elderly

In Coimbatore, children were made to bring their grandparents to school and performed paatha pooja in honour of the elderly. While paying respects to the elderly is good, this kind of subservient display is going overboard.

Coimbatore: In the changing world, the joint family system is slowly declining due to change in individual and family conditions.

In order to celebrate the joint family system among the students studying in the school, Grandparents' day was celebrated at Coimbatore Ashram School.

The students of the school were made to bring their grandparents to the school and were made to perform paatha Pooja for them.

Subsequently, various competitions were held to showcase the understanding of grandparents and grandchildren.

Gowri Udayendran, managing director of the school, said that while the joint family system is on the decline, such programmes are being conducted so that the children studying in the school get to know about the precious and traditional methods of their relatives.

While respecting and learning from elders are important, this kind of subservient moral display is seen in today’s world as an unnecessarily taking things overboard.
