An 80-year-old woman has travelled alone for 80 kilometers to collect the money given to her sister as a loan many years back.
Tirupur: An 80- year old elderly woman, who has travelled miles alone to collect the loan given to her sister was looked after by the villagers, who gave her food.
Arumuthampalayam is next to Palladam in Tirupur district. Residents found an aged woman sitting near the temple in front of a government school in the area.
The woman Ponnammal, who is in her 80s, has been doing cleaning work at a temple in Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district and make a living with the help of kind hearted patrons , who give her money and food.
While, she sleeps in front of the locked shops near the temple and wakes up early in the morning to do temple work, her husband Palanisamy, had died 20 years ago, and her only son is said to be mentally retarded.
According to the woman she has travelled all the way to collect Rs 25,000 from her sister, to whom she loaned the money, years back.
Surprisingly, Ponnammal has boarded a bus from Mettupalayam this morning and came to Chinnakarai in a town bus from Tiruppur, from where she came to Arumuthampalayam in an autorickshaw.
She then went to her sister's house and asked for the full money she had given her. Her sister has sought more time to pay the money. Angered by this, Ponnammal, came to the temple and sat down there.
Later, her sister came there and gave her Rs. 2,000 and served her food. The gutsy old woman has been asked to take rest before she commences her return journey.
