Herd of wild elephants block Nilgiris mountain Railway route, leaving passengers fear-stricken

A herd of wild elephants that strayed away from forest, blocked the Nilgiri Mountain Railway toy train causing panic among the passengers. The NMR was proceeding from Coonoor to Mettupalayam when the incident happened.



The Nilgiris: A herd of wild elephants has been camping on the Mettupalayam hill road in Coonoor in the Nilgiris district for the past few days.

NMR Train traffic was disrupted due to occasional camping of the elephants on the mountain railway route in the recent days.



In this scenario, a herd of wild elephants suddenly blocked the hill train which was preceding from Coonoor to Mettupalayam yesterday evening, due to which the toy train was detained for more than half an hour in the midway.

The wild elephants stood on the railway track for about half an hour and then retreated into the forest to the great relief of the passengers.



The incident of a wild elephant blocking the mountain train has caused a stir among the passengers for some time.
