Edappadi K Palanisamy, new legislative party leader to stake claim to form government.

Undeniably the Supreme Court Judgement is a big-blow for Sasikala and her aides, as it has not only stamped her as an accused but also has showed a dead end for her political career. Since then, tense situations prevail at the Koovathur Resort in Chennai where the MLAs have been held for the past 4-5 days.

As now, Edappadi K Palanisamy has been unanimously elected to be the Chief Minister Candidate from Sasikala's side. It is expected that he along with the supporting MLAs will approach the Governor and express their decision. However, only a floor-test can reveal if those MLAs who have currently extended support for him will stick to their decisions or will switch sides again.

Edappadi K Palanisamy is presently serving as Minister for Highways & Minor Ports and is the sitting Member of the Legislative assembly (MLA) for Edappadi in the Salem district. He has been elected four times as MLA including the recent election in 2016.
