Assistant Professor from Bharathiar University receives 'Young Scientist Award'.


Tamil Nadu Young Scientist Award 2015 was awarded to Dr. V. Balachandar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore by the Department of Higher education, Tamilnadu. Dr.S.Ganesan, Registrar, Anna University and Dr.Arivu Oli from Anna University, Dr.J.Deve Senathipathi from Science City, Dr.Ritta and Mrs.Hema were present during the award ceremony.



Vice Chancellor Dr. A. Ganapathi applauded for the achievement of Dr. V. Balachandar. Dr. V. Balachandar has excelled in various capacities showing fantastic prowess in the Department Of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology at Bharathiar University. This award is a testament to the skill ingenuity and vision of   

Dr. V. Balachandar the Vice Chancellor added. Dr. V. Balachandar was nominated to apply for the Young Scientist Award four months ago with the instructions of the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar of Bharathiar University. The Registrar in-charge Dr. B. Vanithain her praising said that Dr. V. Balachandar has completed his PhD in 2008 at Bharathiar University and received a Gold Medal for his best thesis, he also received Dr. D. S. Kothari Fellowship and completed his Post Doctoral Research.

The Head of the Human Genetics and Molecular Biology Dr. A. Vijaya Anand and Emeritus Professor Dr. K. Sasikala Former Professor and Head of the Department of Zoology stated Dr. V. Balachandar is an asset to the Department as well as to the Bharathiar University contributing with European Advanced Post Graduate Course in Classical and Molecular Cytogenetics (NIMES- France), Medical Genetics Course at University of Bertinoro – Bologna (Italy) and Next Generation Sequencing Course. He also received a sum of Rs 25.50 lakhs from the Indian Government (SERB) for the Fast Track Project, UGC start up grant worth Rs 6lakhs under UGC- Scheme New Delhi and a sum of Rs 50 lakhs grant from DST to carry out research in the field of Neurogenetic disorders. Recently a MOU- has been signed with the University of California, Sandiago, USA, to conduct research in hiPSC model for Rett syndrome disorder, they added.

The University authorities, Professors of various Departments and the students of Bharathiar University conveyed their hearty wishes to Dr. V. Balachandar in receiving the Young Scientist Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu. They also wish Dr. V. Balachandar to cross many  more milestones in his carrier and achieve good success in his chosen field to keep the name of the University at the pinnacle of the globe.
