Fire breaks out at garbage dump near Marudhamalai forest in Coimbatore

The fire has spread rapidly and is raging all over the garbage dump. Due to this, it is reported that there is a danger of forest fire spreading in the nearby Marudhamalai forest area.


Coimbatore: A fire broke out at a garbage dump owned by Somayampalayam Panchayat near the Marudhamalai forest area in Coimbatore on Thursday evening.

The fire has spread rapidly and is raging all over the garbage dump. Due to this, it is reported that there is a danger of forest fire spreading in the nearby Marudhamalai forest area. People in the area say that such fires usually occurs in the elephant corridors and where wildlife is found, and hence should be brought under control, immediately.

Public fear that since plastic waste has been dumped in the area, there is also environmental concern due to the smoke generated by the fire at the garbage dump.
