Following an incident where an individual was caught and arrested for unauthorized blocking of unreserved seats in unreserved coach of Train No.12679 Chennai Central - Coimbatore Intercity Express on 11 February this year, the railways has stepped up vigil against a repeat of such incidents taking place and has issued a warning.
It came to light that this person was caught for unauthorized blocking of unreserved seats in the mentioned train and the same was sold to railway passengers on board this train for Rs.50/- per seat. The individual was nabbed by the Railway Inspector and was immediately apprehended and booked under law.
As per Indian Railways Act 1989 - Section 155 (1), blocking of unreserved accommodation in unreserved coaches is prohibited.
Following this incident the railways has warned that in future any person attempting to block unreserved seats/berths will be severely dealt as per rule.
At the same time, passengers travelling on unreserved tickets are requested to report such unscrupulous practices to the following Salem Division Helpline phone numbers to enable Railways to take immediate action.
