Tirupur collector participates in a send- off ceremony to Palani Padayatra devotees, wearable reflective bands distributed for their safety

The Tirupur district collector organised a send-off to the Palani padyatra devotees going to Palani Murugan temple via Palladam and road safety tips were inculcated to them on the occasion.


Tirupur: Devotees of Lord Muruga undertake annual pilgrimages to Palani Murugan temple and undertake Padayatra on the occasion of "Thaipoosam" festival.

Lakhs of devotees from different parts of Tamil Nadu have started their Padayatra to Palani Dandayuthapani Swamy temple by taking “kavadi” on the occasion of Thaipoosam festival.

Devotees from Tirupur, Coimbatore and Palladam have started their padayatra in advance.



Keeping in view the safety of the devotees going on padayatra to Palani via Palladam, Kundadam and Dharapuram, the Transport Department conducted a road safety awareness camp for the devotees at Palladam today as per the instructions of the District Collector, Tirupur.



Tirupur District Collector Dr. Vineeth participated and inaugurated the camp and presented wearable reflective bands as a safety measure, even as they undertake the yatra at early morning and night hours.



Tirupur South Regional Transport Officer Anand, Motor Vehicle Inspectors Nirmala Devi and Easwaran issued refreshments including tea, biscuits, drinking water bottles and reflective walking sticks.

The devotees were also advised to travel safely and walk on the right side of the road, watching the on-going traffic and wear reflective bands to warn motorists of their presence.
