AIADMK candidate declared as winner by a thin margin of two votes for Chinnathadagam Panchayat president's post

On January 5, the Coimbatore District Principal District court, which was hearing the case, ordered a re-counting for Chinnathadagam panchayat.



Coimbatore: In the re-counting done for the post of Panchayat President of Chinnathadagam the AIADMK-backed candidate Soundravadivu was declared elected by a thin margin of 2 votes.

The rural local body elections were held back in December 2019 and DMK-backed candidate Sudha, AIADMK-backed Soundravadivu and Mallika were the three candidates in the fray for the post of President of The Chinnathadagam panchayat.

DMK-backed candidate Sudha was initially declared the winner with 2,553 votes.



However, the votes were counted again and Soundravadivu, backed by the AIADMK, secured 2,554 votes and Sudha secured 2,551 votes and Soundravadavu emerged as the winner by a margin of 3 votes.

DMK candidate Sudha filed a case against this in the Coimbatore Principal District Court. On January 5, the Coimbatore District principal District court, which was hearing the case, ordered a re-counting for Chinnathadagam panchayat.



Today, following the recounting, Justice Rajasekhar announced the election results in the Coimbatore District Principal Court.

As per the recounting and out of the total 5,357 votes polled, AIADMK candidate Soundravadivu secured 2,553 votes, DMK's Sudha polled 2,551 votes and Mallika 65 votes.

With this, AIADMK candidate Soundaravadivu was declared the winner by a margin of 2 votes. It is to be noted that she has won again in the recounting of votes.
