Residents in Kotagiri's Periyar Nagar area demand for prowling bear to be caught

A lone bear reportedly was spotted again on early Friday morning strolling around the residential area for a long time and then moving into the tea garden. Locals hence have demanded that the Forest Department should keep a close watch on the continuous movement of bears around their settlements and capture them in cages to relocate them into another dense forest area.

The Nilgiris: Residents of Periyar Nagar have demanded that the bear roaming in their residential area be caught.

Periyar Nagar is located on the road from Kotagiri to Aravenu in the Nilgiris district. A few days ago, about two leopards and two black panthers were reported to be seen roaming around the area. Similarly, bears too were spotted in the vicinity.

Hence, locals made a series of requests to the Forest Department to capture the bears in cages.

Thereafter, the bears were not to be seen but then suddenly one bear reportedly was spotted again on early Friday morning. The bear strolled around the residential area for a long time and then went into the tea garden.

The locals hence have demanded that the Forest Department should keep a close watch on the continuous movement of bears around their settlements and capture them in cages to relocate them into another dense forest area. It is to be noted that two bears caught in Kotagiri a few days ago were released in the Mudumalai forest area.
