Thousands of devotees participated in the “Mayana Poojai” held at Anaimalai Masani Amman temple near Pollachi.
Coimbatore: The Kundam festival of Anaimalai Masani Amman temple near Pollachi began on January 21 with the hoisting of the flag and an 85-feet bamboo flag pole was planted in front of the Rajagopuram.
The main event of the festival, the “Mayana Poojai” was performed at the burial ground located on the banks of the Aliyar river, in which the image of The Goddess is drawn on the burial shed in the form of Amman in "sayana roopam".
The portrait of Amman was draped in a silk saree and decorated with flowers and poojas were performed.
Special poojas were performed to the idol of Amman in the presence of thousands of devotees.
The “Amman Arulali” in a fit of divine grace, danced and dissolved the sand image of Amman and took the sulayutham on the head of Amman in her hands.
Thousands of devotees who had gathered there witnessed the sight with reverence.
Finally, the soil was taken from the image of Amman and collected in a “ kalasam’ and taken away and placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the Masani Amman temple.
It is to be noted that another important event of the festival, the Kundam Ianding ceremony, will be held on the 6th of this month.
