Erode (East) by-poll: Election Flying squads intensify vehicle checks to prevent distribution of money for voters

In the run-up to the Erode East by-election flying squads are conducting intensive vehicle checks to prevent money being distributed to voters.


Erode: Even as polling for the by-election to the Erode East Assembly will be held on February 27, the model code of conduct came into effect on January 18th.

To prevent the cash-for-votes phenomenon three flying squads and four static surveillance teams (SST) have been formed.

As many as 5 temporary check posts have been set up to monitor the movement of vehicles and a total of 350 police personnel have been deployed on a 24-hour election duty on a rotational basis.

The incoming vehicles are screened and their registration numbers are noted before entry into the constituency, The incoming vehicles are being checked at Panneerselvam Park, Agraharam, Moolapattarai, Chulai, Sakthi Road, Veerampampalayam, Kumalan Kuttai, Karungalpalayam and other places.

Police and election officials said “we are carrying out intensive vehicle checks to prevent cash and kind being distributed to voters, as the complaints of such incidents have increased by the day”.
