Farmers staged a protest at the Divisional Officer's office in Thennampalayam South Uzhavar Santhai in Tirupur alleging that traders were occupying shops and creating disturbances.
Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association has submitted several representations to the district administration seeking redressal of the ongoing problems in Tirupur North and South Uzhavar Santhai and the Tirupur Corporation vegetable market.
Since reportedly no action has been taken on the issue, over 100 farmers of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association staged a protest in front of the Tirupur Divisional Officer's office demanding immediate resolution of the issues.
"Traders are doing business in a place set up for farmers in the Thennampalayam market in Tirupur. Farmers are not allowed to do business there. Therefore, vegetable shops run illegally by the traders should be removed. On both sides of the road from the Thennampalayam Uzhavar Santhai to bus stand on the Tirupur-Palladam Road, traders are running vegetable shops illegally during Uzhavar Santhai time.
On behalf of the Farmers' Association, we had conveyed various demands to the district administration and the Corporation administration for a permanent ban on such activities by the traders but no action has been taken thus far. Therefore, we are protesting in front of the Tirupur Divisional Officer's office today to find a permanent solution to this problem," lamented the farmers.
Meanwhile, the Tirupur police and the Tirupur North Tahsildar held talks with the farmers who were engaged in the protest. Following this, the farmers called off their agitation and held talks with the Revenue Divisional Officer on their demands.
