The second phase of the 'Pudhumai Penn Scheme' has been launched at Ooty in the Nilgiris district and ATM cards have been issued to beneficiaries. About 165 girl students would be benefited by the scheme.
The Nilgiris: The Nilgiris District Social Welfare Department under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme has launched the second phase of the Pudumai Penn scheme.
District Collector Amrith inaugurated the Second Phase of the scheme, which provides a monthly stipend of Rs.1,000 each to the girl students studying in colleges.
As a part of this, Collector Amrith, who distributed bank ATM cards (debit cards) to the girl students.
Mayors Vaneeswari (Ooty), Parimala (Gudalur), Panchayat Union Presidents Mayan (A) Mathan (Ooty), Sunitha Nehru (Coonoor), Keerthana (Gudalur), Ooty Government Medical College Hospital Dean Manohari took part.
District Chief Educational Officer Munusamy, Ooty Municipal Commissioner Gandhiraj, District Pioneer Bank Manager Sathyaraja, was also present.
