Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has urged the Tamil Nadu government to declare a local holiday for the Maasi chariot festival at the Koniamman temple, the guardian deity of the people of Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has demanded that a local holiday should be declared during the Maasi chariot festival at the Koniyamman temple in Coimbatore.
In this regard, the BJP In a statement, Vanathi Srinivasan, National president of the Women's Wing and a legislator of Coimbatore South Assembly constituency, said in a statement
Arulmigu Koniyamman Temple, also known as 'Kaval Deivam' of Coimbatore city, is located in the heart of Coimbatore city near the Town hall.
“The temple, which comes under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, is a temple that has blended with the sentiments of the people of Coimbatore city” she said in the statement
“The city of Coimbatore is said to have been built with this temple as the centre. Every day thousands of devotees come to have darshan of Arulmigu Koniyamman temple.” Vanathi said “Thiru Therottam” which is held in the month of Maasi every year is the most important festival in the temple. Lakhs of devotees attend this festival.
“Therefore, the people of Coimbatore city and the devotees of Arulmigu Koniamman Temple have requested the District Collector and the Government of Tamil Nadu to declare a local holiday for Coimbatore district on the day of Arulmigu Koniamman Thirutherottam” Vanathi Srinivasan said.
“Accepting this the Tamil Nadu CM and District collector should fulfill the wishes of devotees” she added.
