Wild elephant trapped in electric fence saved by Forest department officials near Ooty after 10 hour long operation

In a shocking incident, a wild elephant, which was trapped in an electric fence in Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, was rescued by the forest department after a 10 hour long operation.


The Nilgiris: Mudumalai Tiger Reserve is situated on the tri junction border of Kerala and Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu and adjacent to Karnataka forests.

Thousands of wild elephants are inhabiting the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka,which is located adjacent to the MTR.

A wild elephant that came out of the Bargi forest area under Omkar forest range got stuck in an electric fence when it entered a nearby private garden.

The elephant which suffered a electric shock fell down and couldn't stand up.

The owner of the land immediately disconnected the power supply to the fence and informed the forest department about the incident.



The forest department officials who rushed to the spot removed the electric wires entangled around the elephant's legs.



As the elephant could not stand up even then, a JCB machine was engaged to help gain its feet.



After a 10 hour long operation, the elephant gained its feet thanks to the forest department officials who extended medical treatment to the elephant.



Later it got up and disappeared into the thick forests.
