Kumki elephant Chinnathambi brought in to help capture the Makhna elephant near Madukkarai

The Makhna elephant, which was captured from Dharmapuri district and released in the Topsilip forest area, entered the Coimbatore city area yesterday after crossing over 15 villages and habitations.


Coimbatore Trained Kumki elephant Chinnathambi from the Top Slip elephant camp has been roped in to aid in the operation of the capture of the Makhna elephant which entered neighbourhoods near Madukkarai.



The Makhna elephant, which was captured from Dharmapuri district and released in the Topsilip forest area, entered the Coimbatore city area yesterday after crossing over 15 villages and habitations.



The forest department and the city police had tried to drive the elephant back into the forest as it was roaming around in neighbourhoods as a threat to the public but in vain.



The Makhna elephant is currently roaming around in the garden behind a private college in the Perur area.



Following this, Chinnathambi was brought from the Topsilip elephant camp to capture the Makhna.



As per the latest information, the forest department has succeeded in firing the tranquillizer shot at the Makhna elephant and it would be brought under the control of Kumki and captured by the Forest department officials.
