The largest statue of the face of lord Shiva, 112 feet tall in the world is all set to be unveiled on 24th February, 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Isha Yoga Centre, Vellingiri.
Prime Minister, Modi will initiate the Maha Yogi Velvi by lighting the fire which intends to raise awareness of yoga globally. On the day of the Velvi, 10 lakh people will learn yoga and they in turn teach the art to 10 crore people, before the next Sivarathri. Such trainers who take yoga to the people will be termed as 'Yoga Veerarkal'. (Yoga warriors)
The Indian government has included this event in its Incredible India Campaign. The Mahasivarathri celebrations will begin at 6.00 pm on 24th February, 2017 in the evening and will continue all night. Midnight Meditation, Jaggi Vasudev's Speech followed by Music programmes, Sounds of Isha and dance programme by Nirutharuthya dance group and cultural performances by Kailash Kher, Rajasthan Roots with Kutle Khan will be conducted through the night. All visitors will be provided food and water.
Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Yoga Centre, speaking on Adiyogi says, 'We have to spread the message of Adiyogi to this world as loudly as possible. The upcoming generation of youth should be have an inner search and Adiyogi statue will help them to do so. Instead of dreaming about a beautiful heaven post our death, Adiyogi will help us find the real heaven while we are alive. People should practice to be calm and happy. As Amavasai (No moon day) is considered to be an scared day in Tamil Nadu. People from nearby areas can make their first offering to the Adiyogi and this ritual has been added to honor people's love and faith.” Jaggi said.
Yaksha a three-day traditional music festival will be conducted before the Mahasivarathiri to help the artisans and to preserve traditional dance and music forms of India. This year Dr. Mysore Manjunath and Dr. Mysore Nagarak will play the violin, Bharathanatyam performance by Padmashree Meenakshi Chitranjan, Odissi dance performance by Bijayini Sathpathi will be conducted on 21st, 22nd and 23rd February.
