Escalators at Coimbatore Junction to be open for use this March, source shares


A source from the Salem Division shared that two escalators are proposed at skywalk area of Coimbatore Junction. The outlay cost for skywalk is Rs. 1.75 crs, viz. Rs.1.5 crores for 2 escalators and allied electrical works (Rs75 lakhs each) and Rs.25 lakhs for the civil engineering works.

They connect the station entrance and PF-1A. Each of these escalators has a passenger carrying capacity of 9000 persons/hr and we are told that the escalators have a vertical height of4.84mtrs.  Both the escalators were hoisted in position on yesterday, 17 February. After installation and post testing, the escalators are proposed to be commissioned by end of March 2017. The escalators when declared open for public use will largely reduce the passenger congestion of this A1 station.
