On day 7, eight JCBs and a team of volunteers continue to clean the Perur Lake


Several volunteers from city-based NGOs, environmentalist, students and citizens of Coimbatore have joined hands to form the Coimbatore Lakes Restoration Team. This team will engage in cleaning and restoring the lakes in our city.  For the past one week, this team of spirted NGOs have chose to clean the Perur lake.



As a part of cleaning, today being day seven, a volunteer shares that 8 JCBs and hundreds of volunteers have been involved in the cleaning. So far, large amounts of trash deposited in the lake bed pertaining to plastic bottles, covers, empty liquor bottles have been cleared off. He also shares that the plastic wastes had gone upto two feet under the soil, which left will deteriorate the soil and the hinder penetration of water.



The volunteers also cleared off the Seema karuvellam trees (a weed) that were found in large numbers along the shores of the lake. The team has plans to continue to such cleaning drives at all lakes in the city.
