Coimbatore: A petition has been filed on behalf of the Pollachi Railway Passengers Welfare Association to run an additional train between Coimbatore to Pollachi.
Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager S. Pal Singh Tomar inspected Pollachi railway station in Coimbatore district. He also inspected the completion of electrification of the railway area and also reviewed the basic amenities for the passengers.
Earlier, while returning from Palakkad railway station, he had inspected the stability of the track, vibration, etc. In this context, Pollachi Railway Passenger Welfare Association President Balakrishnan, Vice-President Nallasamy and others submitted a memorandum to Palakkad Divisional Manager S. Pal Singh Tomar.
According to the petition, the meter gauge railway line on the Pollachi route is in practice. All trains that were operated on those routes should be re-operated when there is. The speed of trains running from Pollachi to Coimbatore via Kinathukadavu and Podanur should be increased to 100 kmph. It was said that the basic amenities and infrastructure facilities required for pollachi railway station should be taken up at the earliest.
The Divisional Manager, who received the petition, said, the basic and infrastructural facilities required for pollachi railway station will be provided under the Amrit Bharat Scheme of the Government of India. It will be recommended to run new trains from Pollachi, he said.
