Coimbatore: People staged a road blockade near a Karumbukadaiin Coimbatore district against the corporation for not supplying water properly.

It is reported that there has been no proper supply of water for the past few days in areas including sugarcane shop and Saramedu under the 62nd ward of Coimbatore Corporation. This angered the people of the area. Demanding proper water supply, they staged a road blockade at the Karumbukadai junction.

The protesting women sat on the road with empty pots and raised slogans demanding water. They also raised slogans that the councillor of ward 62 was missing.

The residents of the area said that despite repeatedly informing the authorities, no action has been taken so far. They also alleged that even their councillor Revathi Murali had not come and met them so far.

They said they were facing a lot of difficulties during the rainy season as the roads were not being repaired. They continued to block the road, saying they would not leave until their ward councillor and corporation officials met them. Traffic in the area was affected due to this.

The police were engaged in talks with them. Ward councillor Revathi Murali reached the spot directly and held talks with the public. He assured that appropriate action would be taken and arranged for supply of water by truck. Following this, the people of the area called off the protest and dispersed.
