On the occasion of Mahashivaratri on February 24th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited as the Guest of Honor to unveil the 112 foot tall Adiyogi face at the Isha Yoga Center. Than in the past, in recent times, land encroachment allegations against Isha Yoga center has been increasing multi-fold. Today, a ban has been sought on the conduct of the Adiyogi function by the members of the Samooga Needhi party.
The petition to the District Collector points that Isha Yoga center has not sought mandatory permissions from the Hill Area Conservation Authority for constructing and installation of this statue at the site. Hence, it is evident that Isha has not adhered to the basic protocols despite this, if PM Modi arrives to Coimbatore to attend the event we would show our condemnation by waving black flag, said the petitioner from Samooga Needhi party. And, that all posters and flex boards installed throughout the city on the vent should also be removed immediately, they urged.
It is to be noted that a tribal lady from the tribal association has filed a complaint at the Madras High Court seeking justice for the land allegations done by Isha and also on the one-lakh square feet of land in which the Adiyogi statue is been installed. The tribal lady in her petition has stated that the 1 lakh sq feet belongs to agriculture wet lands, and how and who has given permission to Isha to proceed with their construction.
The petitioner has also pressed that despite being the issue escalated to the district administration and the concerned officials, no official came forward to cease the construction. And, hence an interim order should be passed on the construction, she petitioned. The matter is in subjudice at the Madras High Court.
As the matter is subjudice, environmentalists and others who are against Isha's continued expansion process sans legal permission have urged that PM Modi should not agree to unveil the statue as the matter is subjudice.
